2021 Acura TLX Type S News– The 2021 Acura TLX Type S features an athletic and robust exterior design with proportions, attitudes, and silhouettes heavily influenced by the Acura Precision Concept and with a faithfully translated of the S type Concept. The intentions of the new TLX performance are delivered through a low and wide stance, long Dash-to-axle ratio, broad hood, tapering greenhouse, and clear rear haunches. Relative to the previous model, the new TLX has a 3.7-inch long wheelbase, 2.2-inch wider body with front and rear width tracks (+ 1.2 in. and + 1.6 in., respectively), low-roof (-0.6 in.) and extended Dash-to-axle dimensions (+ 7.8 in.).
On the front, the bolder and more straight diamond Pentagon Grille is flanked by a signature, the Next-generation Acura illumination cue previewed in the S-type concept. This includes the new Jewel Eye® LED Light with four elements LED and bright-white “Chicane ” LED daylight walking lights inspired by the Acura ARX-05 Championship winner Daytona Racing prototype cars.
The sleek, dynamic side profile of the sedan uses a thin, angled surface to create a strong light-and-shadow contrast and brings out the arch of the rear wheel of the sedan, leading to the back that comes with a shorter overhang, swept-back decklid, “Chicane ” LED taillights and dual open exhaust outlets.
The neatly designed cab section is set back to the body and has a steeper roof pillar inside to further emphasize the low and wide position of the TLX muscles. The roof itself has been carved with a lower center of the set, defined by two curved grooves inside, for a more distinctive look that conveys a lower sense of movement and appearance.

Design Driven Innovation
With a Flat-Bottom sports steering wheel available and an Integrated Dynamics System drive mode Dial, the new TLX is the realization of® precision performance created.
The Acura’s hugely popular A-spec sports package continues, adding A typical sports appearance upgrade inside and out. The unique exterior features A-spec including the Grey Shark 19-inch wheels, black gloss accent front to back, dark lights and backlight treatments, and a uttered back decklid spoiler.
In the front, the unique open-surface diamond Pentagon grating and the larger side air intake feeding the all-new powerful V6 Turbo engine developed for the Acura type S model. Aerodynamic elements include the rear Spoiler decklid, an aggressive front splitter and rear diffuser, and a large Quad exhaust outlet that recovers to the 2007-2008 TL type S., a Split-10 spoke design of the S Concept type and the NSX-inspired lightweight “Y-Spoke ” Wheel, both wrapped in a 255-series rubber performance. More details about the TLX type S will be released closer to the sale date in spring 2021.
Exclusive new body and chassis
The TLX 2021 is a sports sedan at its core, built on a new special Acura sedan platform designed for S-type performance levels. The new Chassis returned from the Double-Wishbone front suspension for the Acura sell Top-sedan, offering more precise handling and cornering grip, as well as greater mechanical compliance to improve the quality of travel. In addition, the TLX chassis combines several engineering upgrades that focus on new performance, including a variable-ratio steering system, the electro-servo brake-per-wire technology applied from the NSX and the available drivers to be selected adaptive damper System.

NSX Electro-Servo brake
First developed for the second-generation NSX, the new TLX uses a highly sophisticated electric-servo brake system. The system allows the Acura engineers to fine-tune the brake pedal force and electronic control brake pressure to optimize vehicle driving characteristics performance.
For TLX type S, some hardware upgrades will improve braking performance, including larger discs and four-piston BREMBO® front calipers equipped with a focused adjustment on the entire braking system performance.
Wheels and Tires
The athletic attitude of TLX is based on a larger standard 18-inch (+ 1-in) wheel and a 19-inch wheel available on various cover layers, depending on the trim. Performance-Tuned 255-Rubber series delivers a 20 percent more lateral Grip than an exit tire.
Models of TLX type S will be equipped with a 20-inch Split-10 that speaks alloy wheels completed in Shark Gray. An optional lightweight wheel inspired by the NSX “Y-Spoke ” Design will be offered alongside high-performance summer tires, an ever-increasing grip while reducing undisclosed masses.
Two High-Output Turbo powertrains
This new TLX will offer two, powerful and high torque turbocharged engines. With a peak output of 272 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. torque (SAE net), TLX’s 2.0-liter turbo boasts the highest horsepower in its core competitive set, providing dramatic gains in horsepower (+ 66) and torque (+ 98 lb.-ft. at the peak, + 123 lb.-ft. at 1,500 rpm) when compared to previous models of 2.4-liter 4-cylinder natural aspiration.
The newly-mounted transverse V6 will be very compact and lightweight, utilizing dual scroll turbochargers and electronic wastegate to provide an immediate, high-torque response. Compared to out, naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6, the new engine provides dramatic gains in the pinnacle of horsepower and, more critically, in torque, throughout the full operating engine range, including more than 50-percent increased low-end torque. Acura 4-Generation SH-AWD® system has 40 percent more rear torque capacity and 30 percent faster than the front to rear transfer torque of the 3rd generation system in TLX out. Acura SH-AWD® system in the new TLX transfer up to 70 percent of the machine’s torque to the rear axle during normal driving conditions, while continuously dividing up to 100 percent of the axle’s rear axle between the two left and right rear wheels. In addition, the rear axle is continuously overdriven by 2.9 percent, which amplifies the yaw moment effect from left-to-right torque transfer, elevates performance through sharper and more accurate turn-ins, and improves traceability while cornering.

Developed under the theme “Dual Personal Cockpit,” new sedan, more luxurious interiors place a strong emphasis on driver and front-seat passengers. The high and wide central tunnel of TLX and its surrounding instrument panels make for a more private and very robust space for both front-seat occupants, while the wider body design allows for the proper comfort of first-class seating for both, with high-end hip and shoulder chambers (+ 0.5 in. and + 0.7 in., respectively).
Both the driver and the front passenger also benefit from a customized design of the Acura’s sophisticated front-end sports seat, highly adapted to 16-way adjustment power. For the driver, a neat leather-wrapped steering wheel, clean and clear instrumentation, and enhanced forward visibility serve as the foundation for an in-Command and exhilarating driving experience.
The A-spec and type S models feature unique details across the entire cab, including a thick-framed, flat-base steering wheel wrapped with perforated skin with contrast stitches and a larger metal-plated paddle lever. In addition to unique materials and colors, the interior of the TLX type S is distinguished by the type S used in the door frame, steering wheel, and headrests arise.
Intuitive Technology and connectivity
The TLX 2021 also incorporates a full array of Acura technologies designed to enhance convenience, connectivity, and audio entertainment, starting with the new implementation of the Acura innovative driver-oriented and True Touchpad Interface™. The system is equipped with a High-Mounted 10.2-inch HD display and console-mounted touchpad with “Absolute positioning ” mapping. For more intuitive control, the upgraded interface of TLX has the physical Power, volume, and Seek feature positioned to the right of the touchpad. Leveraging the latest True Touchpad interface software, TLX offers more accurate swipe zones and handwriting recognition, as well as other performance enhancements. Also, ergonomically friendly armrests provide anchor points for touchpad operation.
The TLX 2021 Acura features a standard 7-inch full-color multi-Information display (MID) in the central measuring cluster and an available 10.5-inch full-color Head-up Display (HUD). Award-winning available Acura ELS STUDIO 3D® Premium Audio System features four ultra-slim Highline™ ceiling speakers as well as the new Twin Telford™ subwoofer design.
The new TLX also features the latest Generation AcuraLink™ with in-vehicle 4GLTE Wi-Fi, Over-The-air update software capabilities and a diverse range of cloud-based services, including roadside emergency assistance, remote locking/unlocking and starting machines, stolen vehicle tracking, remote diagnostics, geofencing, speed tracking, and Acura concierge services.
Color and trims
The new TLX will display an expanded color palette with nine exterior finishes including five Premium colors. New in TLX for 2021 is a distinguished Phantom Violet pearl. The TLX type S will be offered in an exclusive, brave Tiger Eye Pearl. Apex Blue Pearl, previously available only on the A-spec model, will be added to the type S catalog.
A total of seven interior color options will be offered on TLX 2021. Ebony, Espresso, Graystone, and parchment will be offered on the standard model of TLX, depending on the trim. The Model TLX A-spec and TLX type S will be displayed either Ebony or Red Leather, both with Ultrasuede Black® inserts. In addition, TLX type S will offer an exclusive Light Orchid skin interior option.
Further enhancing the driving environment, new TLX features are available Ambient LED lighting throughout the cab. The new system provides a unique interior Ambient lighting scheme that changes with every driving mode (convenience, normal, sports), as well as 24 selectable interior lighting schemes, each named after a driving destination or iconic track, such as “Pacific Coast ” and “Suzuka “.
Adjustable driving performance
The TLX 2021 provides a more flexible and personalized driving experience through the use of the Acura integrated dynamic system, now featuring individual modes. As before, the system integrates many powertrain and chassis systems, accessed through a striking drive mode dial positioned on the central console.

Working with Adaptive Cruise Control with a low-speed follow, Traffic hour assist helps reduce driver stress in extremely dense traffic situations by helping to keep vehicles on the track and at intervals set behind the detected cars ahead.
In addition, the TLX 2021 features the first-ever application of the company’s new front passenger technology airbag. This new exclusive Airbag uses a three-room design that works similarly to Mitt Baseball catcher, designed for more effective Cradle, and helps to protect the front seat tenant’s head to help reduce potential injuries in the steeper frontal collision.
This new TLX also provides advanced passive safety (collision protection) performance through the use of the Acura Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, which has been refined to provide additional tenant protection in a wider range of collision scenarios. Additional structural safety features include an ultra-high-strength-steel one-piece ring door and an ultra-rigid central tunnel that helps optimize the absorption and direction of collision forces around the cab.
Design, development, and manufacturing
Design, engineering, and development of the 2021 Acura TLX are done mainly in America. Styling was led by the Acura Design in Torrance, California, while the full platform development was led by engineers at the company’s development center in Raymond, Ohio. The development of the new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 led by the R&D company in Tochigi, Japan.
The new TLX will be produced exclusively in the company Marysville, Ohio, plants using domestic and global parts that are sourced. The 2.0-liter TLX and 3.0-liter turbocharged engine will be manufactured exclusively in the company of Anna, Ohio, machinery manufacturers, also home to the twin-turbocharged V6 Hybrid Power unit in the Acura NSX supercar. The 10-speed automatic transmission will be produced exclusively in the Tallapoosa, Georgia, plant, and SH-AWD Companies® The front force of the Loose unit system and the rear differential will be manufactured in the company of Russells Point, Ohio, plant.
